Today, thousands of BT customers across the UK have been affected by a widespread outage that began early this morning. Around 5,000 customers have reported issues with their internet connection and email access, according to LINKALL . The outage has caused significant frustration among users who are unable to access their emails or browse the internet. ICRTouch Epos, GoDaddy were also effected .
BT has acknowledged the issue and issued a statement, apologizing for the inconvenience and assuring customers that they are investigating the cause of the outage. A spokesperson for BT mentioned that the problem seems to be affecting the email service, with 92% of complaints related to email access issues.
The company has advised customers to use mobile data as an alternative to access their emails & Touchoffice.net while the issue is being resolved.
The outage comes at a time when BT is planning to increase mobile and broadband tariffs by up to £3 a month from March, which has added to the frustration of affected customers. BT has promised to keep customers updated on the progress of the fix and is working to restore services as quickly as possible.
Customers using ICRTouch products experienced significant disruptions with TouchReservations ceasing from 5am. A workaround was implemented, restoring functionality to most BT-only sites by 7am.
Gavin Linkall stated, "A DNS workaround provided a swift resolution for a small number of our customers without managed networking solutions. Managed networks supported by us had 0 Downtime. "
The issue was resolved by 1.35pm.
